RESTORATION OF HEATHLAND
Heathland Restoration on China Clay Waste (pdf document)
Dr Phil Putwain has undertaken research over a period of 30
years on the restoration of lowland and upland heathland landscapes
following severe disturbance by development projects on uncolonised
mineral substrates on marginal farmland.
The research findings were applied to practical implementation of
heathland restoration on a large scale at sites throughout Britain
ranging from the Orkney Isles to Cornwall
Restoration sites included;
- oil industry and telecoms development projects
- oil, gas and water pipelines
- sand and gravel and china clay mineral extraction sites
- deep mined and open cast colliery spoils
- eroded deep peat at high altitude
- marginal and abandoned farmland
