Phil Putwain is a terrestrial plant ecologist with a special interest in the restoration and management of semi-natural vegetation communities on damaged substrates, mineral wastes and derelict and brownfield land.  His  approach to habitat creation and the repair of damaged and disturbed ecosystems is based on more than 30 years research and the application of this to large scale ecological restoration in a wide range of sites and situations some of which are illustrated in CASE STUDIES on this web site.

Dr Hugh McAllister - Associate Consultant 

Hugh McAllister is a cytotaxonomist and field botanist with a special interest in identification of vascular plants and bryophytes.  His knowledge of the British flora is very extensive.  He has special expertise in difficult groups such as the bryophytes (e.g. Sphagna), grasses and sedges.  He has 30 years experience of propagation and cultivation of native and garden plants with an emphasis on species of conservation interest.

Dr John Eaton - Associate Consultant

John Eaton is an aquatic plant ecologist with special expertise in aquatic plant conservation and the restoration and management of canal and lake ecosystems, based on 35 years experience.  John has wide experience in the delivery of research projects and consulting contracts and has been appointed to various government advisory committees (and other statutory organisations) in an advisory capacity.

Prof Nicholas Dickinson - Associate Consultant

Nick Dickinson has worked extensively on the ecological impact of trace element contamination and soft end-use remediation of contaminated soils and sediments. Reclamation of brownfield land using tree planting occupies his main current interests, with a particular focus on phytoremediation and soil health.  He received his Ph.D. from University of Keele in 1980, which was followed by a lectureship at Kenyatta University in Nairobi (Kenya) and then Liverpool John Moores University, where he is currently Professor of Environmental Biology.

Dr Mike Le Duc – Associate Consultant

Mike Le Duc is a terrestrial plant ecologist with special expertise in statistical approaches to investigating and modelling vegetation dynamics involving multivariate statistics, experimental design and design of complex databases. Mike’s experience involves application of these techniques in woodland ecology, vegetation restoration in the uplands including bracken control and restoration and management of heathlands. Mike’s statistical expertise has been applied to a wide range of field investigations over a period of 20 years.

Dr Will Hartley

Will Hartley is a soil scientist specialising in the characterisation and remediation of metal-contaminated soils.  His research and consulting experience has focussed on regeneration of brownfield land, pollution risk assessment and environmental health issues.  Will has special expertise in characterising metal mobility and bioavailability in urban and brownfield soils.
